  • Modern DSLR’s can be daunting.  Dozens of buttons often perform multiple functions, scores of menu options, and a quick control dial that does 18 different things. It’s enough to send the new user screaming into the night, and even faze the seasoned pro going digital after decades of film experience.  This one-day workshop or Meet-Up will concentrate on the new and confusing concepts of digital photogrpahy and high tech cameras.  Learn how and why to shoot in RAW as compared to JPEG.  Learn how to read and utilize the RGB histograms, how to expose to the right, and when not to do it.  Discover what all the different autofocus modes actually do.  Master white balance and learn how to set a custom white balance for accurate neutral colors.  Visualize and shoot black and white images. We will walk through the menus of both the high end (EOS I-6, 5D Mark II and III, 7D) and the mid-line (60D) cameras and the more approachable digital Rebel, showing you the settings that will solve a variety of real-world problems.  This is not an entry level class.  Students are expected to already understand f/stops and shutter speeds and ideally, have completed our #101 Fundamental Class.  If time permits at the end of class, students with a high-end Canon at least as new as a 7D can learn how to fine tune the autofocus with a laser, and match the sensor with the lens for perfect focus.  We will not cover the use of a DSLR as a video camera.
