# 121 The Business of Photography

Through lectures, demonstrations, class discussions and guest lecturers, this three-week six session class (Mondays and Wednesdays) will provide the students with the knowledge needed to start their own photography business.  Instruction includes the differences between a Sole Proprietorship and an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) business structure and which one may be best for your. We will discuss pricing your work, writing contracts to protect yourself from people who trample upon or outright steal your intellectual property or who completely disregard copyright laws, and when model releases are needed. Learn about selling up and marketing your work to maximize profits and branding your services.  MPW will bring in guest speakers; each at the top of their profession to speak to the student; relevant to whatever kind of business you plan to operate.  This class is appropriate for the new photographer or the veteran who needs to brush up on the ever changing laws, trends and business models.
