This five-week course is designed for the photographer desiring to acquire skills necessary to digitally manipulate image files. While every photo and every photographer is different, it is no exaggeration to say that, in the vast majority of cases, using Photoshop can improve any image. Used by professionals and non-professionals alike, Photoshop is the ultimate playground for bringing out the best in your digital images and transforming them into anything you can imagine! Although Photoshop CC is a deep and powerful program, its benefits are immediately accessible to the motivated beginner showing you its most user friendly features first and shown the correct path going forward. Students will be guided to improve their images of people, nature, landscape, architecture, products, etc. to yield maximum impact, detail, and technical quality in an efficient and nondestructive manner by using layers and masks. Students who complete the course will be well grounded in the most important and powerful features of Photoshop even if they own a previous version. MPW/s computer lab is equipped with nine brand new Mac Mini computers. For Windows users, the only the difference is a couple of keystrokes. Class size is limited, so that a small student/instructor ratio ensures plenty of individual attention. The majority of each class session concentrates on working with high-end image files in Photoshop, assisted by the instructor. If you have never taken an editing class, MPW strongly recomends the completing of an Adobe Lightroom Classic class first. Use that class to build upon the skills and techniques learned there to pursue Adobe Photoshop.
Classes are interspersed with brief theory sessions in which new concepts are introduced and discussed. This is immediately followed by computer lab time where students are provided with customized Photoshop exercises to demonstrate the theory behind making great images. The instructor is available to answer questions about class work or individual needs.
Photoshop is the most powerful photo editing software available, but it is not for everyone. MPW assumes that students arrive having basic computer skills and photographic experience/knowledge like how to make and name a file. If your computer skills are not strong, please contact MPW so we can determine if you would be a good candidate for a Photoshop class. Students ideally already have a copy of Photoshop (any version) for use at home to practice techniques learned in class.
Just as a reminder; all digital editing classes are held at our new Southfield campus located at 29260 Wildbrook Drive. (just east of Telegraph and just north of 12 Mile Rd.)
