#302 Wild Spring Flowers, Waterfalls and Landscape photography at Tobermory, Ontario – A four-day Photo Safari May 2027

May 22, 2026 @ 12:00 am - June 2, 2027 @ 12:00 am

$700.00

This workshop will be conducted at the beautiful Bruce Peninsula National Park in Ontario, Canada, Tobermory which is about a 5-hour drive north from either Detroit or Toronto and as such, the weather and seasonal change is several weeks later than Detroit with the bloom of spring wildflowers.  We expect to photograph Calypso and Rams Head Orchids, Yellow Lady Slippers and the endangered Yellow Lakeside Daisy plus many other flowers.  We will also visit Singing Sands beach area for some Astro Photography of the Milky Way and if lucky, some Northern Lights. This area is replete with photographic opportunities, which include natural caves, rocky beaches, gnarly Cyprus trees, dolomite limestone cliffs, waterfalls, lighthouses and much more.

A sturdy pair of hiking boots is recommended, as we will need to hike to get to the caves and waterfalls. All camera formats are welcome and instruction will be provided on exposure, filters, close-up and macro techniques, panorama techniques, Milky Way/Northern Lights Astro Photography, HDR and landscape composition.

Students should bring a photo backpack. We recommend that you carry only the amount of equipment that you can comfortably carry during the hike to the caves and around the lake. The hiking is not strenous but time consuming. This is tripod shooting!

Class size is limited to maximize a small student-to-teacher ratio. Evening sessions are a casual get together, where participants have an opportunity to discuss the day’s events, view slide presentations and enjoy the comradeship of fellow students. Bring your portfolio. Make sure you bring your passport or at least a Michigan Enhanced Drivers License to get into Canada and back.

Students are expected to be ready for class on Friday at 8:00am and will be finished late afternoon on Monday. This workshop is appropriate for photographers or painters who will later paint from their photos once they return home.

Tuition does not include meals, transportation or lodging. One dinner and the boat ride to Flower Pot Island is included. Non-shooting spouses are welcome to attend at no additional tuition cost (boat ride fare for spouses is extra). Be aware that due to the limited availabilities to non-photographic outside activities, spouses should enjoy hiking and communing with nature. Advanced registration is required. We plan to lodge at the Coach House Inn. For room reservations call Ruth at 519-596-2361.
